Perfect Conflagration: The Fires of 1910

Bill Moody, former manager of the Winthrop Smokejumping Base and an aerial firefighting consultant, will present a PowerPoint slide show and description of the largest forest fire in U.S. history. It burned approximately three million acres of prime virgin timber in Washington, Idaho and Montana, killing at least 85 people and devastating several towns in its path. He will briefly discuss the political scene at the turn of the last century and the development of the U.S. Forest Service’s fire management program. Could such a devastating fire happen again?
