Environmental Film: "Vanishing of the Bees"

Filmed in the U.S., Europe, Australia and Asia, this 90-minute documentary examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater meaning it holds about the relationship between mankind and Mother Earth. Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples, broccoli, watermelon, onions, cherries and a hundred other fruits and vegetables. Commercial beekeepers pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables. As scientists puzzle over the cause of the bees’ disappearance, organic beekeepers indicate alternative reasons for this tragic loss. The film series is presented by the Wenatchee Valley Museum, Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and Trust for Public Land. The film is sponsored by the Wenatchee Chapter of the Native Plant Society.
