Environmental Film Series: The Salmon Forest

Scientists look at how the crucial role salmon play Pacific Northwest ecosystem in The Salmon Forest

The rich forest streams entering the Pacific from the north end of Vancouver Island to the Alaskan border, yield millions of spawning salmon which in turn support dense concentrations of forest life where grizzly bears, black bears, bald eagles, seals, otters, gulls and countless invertebrates thrive.

While studying the forest, biologist Dr. Tom Reimchen, finds evidence of a link between the salmon and the trees. And in the canopy, entomologist Dr. Neville Winchester uses micro-cinematography to expose, for the first time, a vast array of strange-looking arthropods and tiny insects.
